A comprehensive plan outlining the key aspects of Dubai's development until 2040 has been unveiled
The Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan was introduced a few years ago by Dubai’s Crown Prince and UAE Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
This is the seventh comprehensive development plan for Dubai (the first was presented in 1956), and each time, the government has meticulously followed the plan, implementing large-scale projects. The current plan reflects the city's ambitions to become one of the best places in the world to live, work, and visit. It envisions significant changes in the city's structure, economy, and social sphere.
For instance, in 2023, the Dubai government announced the resumption of construction on the second palm, Jebel Ali. The project was put on hold in 2008 due to financial difficulties related to the global economic crisis. The second palm will be located on the shores of the Persian Gulf. It will span 8 kilometers in length and 6 kilometers in width. This large-scale project will be realized as part of the master plan.
Key Objectives of the Plan
-
Green areas will double in size.
-
Reserves and rural areas will make up 60% of the emirate.
-
Green corridors will be created, connecting residential areas with recreational and work zones.
-
Hotel and tourism zones will expand by 134%.
-
Land allocated for medical and educational facilities will increase by 25%.
-
Beach areas will be expanded fourfold.
-
The population will grow from 3.6 million to 5.8 million people.
-
Infrastructure modernization of popular districts.
